Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat Terms & Conditions

By booking a reservation at the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat you and your party acknowledge, understand, and fully agree to all of the terms and policies laid out below. Terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

  • We highly recommend purchasing travel or activity insurance for your stay or activity to provide peace of mind; there are no exceptions to our cancellation policies.
  • You are responsible for ensuring the correct date(s) were booked; refunds will not be provided for incorrect dates booked in error.

All activities and experiences happen rain, snow, or shine! If the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat or any of our partners need to cancel for any reason, you will be notified immediately. If you are not notified, the experience is still taking place! For combination experiences (e.g., Stagecoach Ride & Dinner) the dinner experience will still take place, even if the Stagecoach ride is cancelled.

General Terms & Policies

  • We reserve the right to cancel or modify any reservation, including those where the rate or details appear to contain or resulted from an error or mistake.
  • We hold the right to make substitutions to details in all package inclusions and bookings.
  • Prices, details, and dates are subject to change without notice.
  • Any “convenience fee” is NOT paid to the Lodge or its partners, but to the reservation system in use.
  • All photographic images of our activities, experiences, rooms, chalets, suites, and property represent the general layout, theme, design, and/or decor. Details may vary.
  • Smoking Policy: All of our lodgings, and the 1886 Main Lodge, are non-smoking facilities. We thank you for not smoking inside and provide several designated smoking areas that you may use. There is a $200 fee for smoking inside any of our buildings.

Government Taxes

  • All purchases are subject to an 8% New York State Sales tax.
  • Lodging rates are also subject to a 5% Franklin County Occupancy Tax.
  • All prices are subject to change without notice, including state and county taxes.


  • This is a public place, and exposure to COVID-19 and similar diseases is an inherent risk; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your experience or time on our property.
  • We ask that you and your party please evaluate your own risk in determining whether to reserve and attend this experience.
  • By booking an experience and coming to our property you acknowledge and agree that you assume these inherent risks associated with attendance and agree to hold the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat and its partners harmless for any illness or injury or other inconvenience that may arise from your visit.
  • You also agree that you and your party have reviewed and agree to follow all applicable guidelines from the NY State Department of Health/CDC.
  • Last-minute cancellations due to last-minute testing cannot be refunded nor guaranteed to have availability to rebook. Please look into traveler's insurance if you are concerned about cancellation.

Experience & Activity Policies

Experience/Activity Cancellation Policy

  • **All experiences and activities are non-refundable.**
  • The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat is a limited seating/participation facility and the Lodge Staff is preparing activities for you.
  • If you need to cancel your experience, please let us know in writing as soon as possible.
  • Our experiences require a full, non-refundable deposit. Your credit card will be charged upon booking.
  • Full refunds will be provided for situations in which the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat or its partners need to cancel for any reason. All experiences provided by the Lodge and its partners are otherwise non-refundable.
  • Times are reserved per experience; partial cancellations for package experiences may require time changes and are at the discretion of the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat.
  • We are not responsible for any costs, damages, losses, or other unfavorable circumstances set upon you resulting directly or indirectly from acts of government, terrorism, pandemic, revolution, rioting, war, weather and acts of nature, or other causes beyond the reasonable control of the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat or its partners.

Experience/Activity Reservation Change Policy

  • Reservations are non-refundable and non-changeable.
  • Times are reserved per experience; partial cancellations for package experiences may require time changes and are at the discretion of the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat.

Booking Cancellation Add-On/Insurance

  • For some of our experiences, we offer semi-flexible or flexible booking options.
  • Depending on the specific option, when added, this allows you a more flexible cancellation and/or reservation change window.
  • A maximum of one (1) reservation change or cancellation before the deadline is permitted at which point the booking becomes non-refundable (unless the flexible option is purchased a second time).
  • If you choose to cancel your reservation before the deadline, the booking amount minus the flexible booking charge will be refunded. Think of this as our own version of traveler's insurance specifically for your booking at the Lodge; your booking cost will be covered, but the flex charge is non-refundable.
  • All flexible booking upgrade costs are non-refundable upon purchase.

Experience/Activity Late Arrivals

  • Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your activity/dinner; this ensures a smooth experience for everyone.
  • Arrivals more than 5 minutes after the scheduled start time of your experience will be considered a no-show and will forfeit your reserved activity.

Dinner Experiences & Events

  • Incidentals and extras such as, but not limited to, drinks, appetizers, desserts, and workshops are not included.
  • No alcohol or drinks are permitted in any horse-drawn vehicle. All food and beverage on the Lake Clear Lodge property MUST be provided by the Lake Clear Lodge, per New York State law. We are required to confiscate beverages that have not been purchased at the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat.
  • Any provided menus or pre-ordering options are subject to change without notice and are for sample purposes only and to help our limited team prepare your experience.
  • Substitutions may apply based on fresh deliveries and local ingredients available.
  • When available, special requests, substitutions, and changes are subject to a $10 minimum surcharge.
  • Winter Speakeasy Dinner: A standard gratuity will be added to all restaurant charges, including drinks, appetizers, desserts, extras, and workshops.
  • A standard gratuity will be added to split checks and parties of 6 or more.

Sleigh Rides

  • Sleigh rides are provided by a local farm and we do not control the schedule, government regulations, or the weather! The farm has a wagon/wheel kit in the event of suboptimal weather and refunds will not be provided if the farm has traveled to our property and is offering rides.
  • If the farm needs to cancel for any reason, you will receive a refund on the sleigh ride, but the Speakeasy Event will still take place and we expect you there (if you booked it).
  • Depending on how the sleigh fills up at your particular time, you may need to get a bit cozy and some children or infants may be required to sit on an adult's lap. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation to make the experience enjoyable for everyone.

Lodging Stay, Inclusions, and Package Policies

Activity, immersion, lodging, and experience availability may vary. By booking, you understand that substitutions may be made to your experience, activity, and/or package. If a specific item is not available, the credit can be used for other Lodge-provided activities. You also understand that any package/experience credit and/or payment with experience credit is non-refundable. If there is a remaining credit at the end of your stay, it will be forfeit.

Lodging details and amenities are subject to availability and may vary without notice. No refunds will be provided in the event that an amenity is non-functional or in need of a repair. The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat will make a reasonable effort to fix such item in a timely manner.

Check-In & Check-Out

  • Check-in is anytime after 3:30 PM*. If you could let us know your estimated arrival time so we know when to expect you that would be great!
  • Check-out is 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on the morning of departure. If you intend to leave earlier, please let us know so you can check out the evening before departure. 
  • *Early check-in or arrival is not available at this time. Please arrive after 3:30 PM to ensure someone is here to greet you!
  • Late check-out fee: $50.

Cancellation Policy

We are a small family-run property that is saving and preparing our limited, unique specialty lodging for you. If you are concerned about cancellation or your dates changing, we recommend purchasing travel insurance. Our cancellation policy applies to all reservations and circumstances.
  • Your 50% deposit to hold your lodging is refundable minus a 10% service fee* + tax if cancellation is received in writing 30 days before your arrival date.
  • If cancellation is within 29 days of your arrival, the 50% holding deposit that is paid upon booking is non-refundable. Full payment for your reservation is taken 7 days prior to arrival and is non-refundable at that time. Prices, restaurant offerings, and other information are subject to change.
  • One-night stays, when available, require a 100% deposit and are non-refundable. 
  • Dinner Packages do not include any beverages in the restaurant/bar, store, or beer/wine cellar. Package/meal items are non-refundable. 
  • All classes, meals, and activities are non-refundable 7 days prior to arrival as we are planning for and holding your limited class/meal/activity space.
  • We are not responsible for any costs, damages, losses, or other unfavorable circumstances set upon you resulting directly or indirectly from acts of government, terrorism, pandemic, revolution, rioting, war, weather and acts of nature, or other causes beyond the reasonable control of the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat or its partners.  Due to unprecedented times with cancellations, your reservation is not available for use as a credit or bookable for another date or time. By reserving your stay, you agree to this policy.

*10% of the reservation total. 

Lodging Reservation Change Policy

  • Reservation changes are generally not available, but you are welcome to request a change, in writing. Your nightly lodging rate is based on the length and package of the original booking. If there is a change to either of the aforementioned, there may be a change in your lodging rate. Additionally, reservation changes will incur a fee depending on the change. Though these fees are handled on a case-by-case basis, please refer to our cancellation policy as a guide.

Pet Policy

  • The Lake Clear Lodge has several pet-friendly cabins, and others are kept allergy-free. Please confirm that your lodging is pet-friendly upon booking and ensure that you have paid the appropriate pet charge.
  • You also agree to keep your pet on a leash when outside your cabin and to clean up after your pet. Pets (unless certified service pets) are not allowed in the Main Lodge/Restaurant.
  • Please Note: housekeeping will not be provided if you have a pet with you. We are happy to bring you needed items or provide housekeeping (if your pet is not in the building) upon request.

Quiet Hours

  • We request quiet hours between 10:00 PM and 10:00 AM. Please be courteous to fellow guests.  There is free wifi in the main Lodge – this is a great opportunity to disconnect and reconnect.

Smartphones, Tablets, Computers, and Electronics

  • There is wireless internet access at the main Lodge with your own laptop/smartphone/tablet. Phones and TVs are not provided in any of the rooms, chalets, or suites. Guests find this a refreshing getaway.
  • Cell phone service varies in areas due to the mountains and valleys but is accessible on most of the property. Verizon tends to have the best service.
  • Please tell all of your party that our dining room is an “electronics-free zone.” For just a bit, have dinner in 1886!

Minimum Stay & Longer Stays

  • All lodgings have a 2-3 night minimum. During peak seasons or holidays, there may be a 3-night minimum. One-night stays are available under certain conditions. Please give us a call. If you have been allowed a one-night stay, we cannot guarantee the exact room booked.
  • One-night stays require a full, non-refundable deposit upon booking. See our cancellation policy for more details.
  • For stays longer than 3 days, we supply starter housekeeping supplies (paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap), but do not supply replacement supplies.

Rate Inclusions

  • All lodging rates include wifi in the 1886 Main Lodge lobby and use of our 25 acres and nature trails. Seasonally, they also include mountain bikes, canoes, kayaks, cross-country skis, and snowshoes to use on our property. During the warmer months, Lake Clear also holds up to its name and is terrific for swimming! And don't miss the winter lantern-lit sleigh rides.
  • Experience Credit: Your added Great Camp Experience Package Charge is a non-refundable credit inclusion that can be used towards Lake Clear Lodge-provided experiences such as our dinner experiences, workshops, cooking classes, activities, restaurant extras, and the Adirondack Alps store. There is no refund for unused credit. Credit is not applicable to third-party activities such as Stagecoach Rides, sleigh rides, etc. Experience Credit usage is at the discretion of the Lake Clear Lodge. All policies are subject to change without notice. In continuing a 56-year-old tradition, part of your Experience Credit must be used towards dinner one evening for your party. 
  • Third-Party Activities & Inclusions: Any activities that are not provided directly by the Lake Clear Lodge (i.e., sleigh rides, stagecoach rides, attraction tickets, etc.) are subject to change or cancellation as they are beyond our control, and therefore will be confirmed upon your arrival.


  • Generally, all reservations include a dinner/experience package, please make your dining or activity reservations prior to arrival as we have limited seating/participation. Packages that have restaurant inclusions do not include any incidentals such as bar or gratuities. Please let Chef Cathy know of all valid medical sensitivities prior to arrival. If you have any other requests, please let us know, and we will do our best to fulfill them.
  • All schedules and pricing are subject to change without notice.
  • In lieu of individual restaurant tipping, we add an 18% gratuity to all dining services and a 10% service charge to all takeout to your room, if available.

By booking a reservation at the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat, you and your party agree to all terms laid out above and any terms and conditions designated in the service used to book a reservation at the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat.
